Change of venue for Newton school public meeting

A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the future use of a former school has been moved due to the large numbers expected to attend.

The meeting, formerly advertised as being at the Kingsway Chapel, has now been moved to the University Campus Buildings (Lecture Theatre) in Kingsway, Newton, on Wednesday, October 22 at 7pm.

Woodfield School occupies a substantial piece of land surrounded by Kingsway, Somerset Road, Derwent Road and Ethelda Drive in Newton.

Since it closed in July 2008, Councillor Adrian Walmsley and chair of Kingsway Residents’ Association Ann Charlton have been backing residents’ wishes to retain the site for community use.

Cllr Walmsley said: “The residents of Kingsway and Newton have a strong case for requesting a community centre of some description and the Woodfield school buildings – or part of them at least – would be ideal for this purpose.”

Members and officers from Cheshire County Council and the new Cheshire West & Chester Council will also be in attendance to answer questions.
