Visitors see city in a different light

CHESTER’S historic landmarks stole the limelight last weekend as the city hosted its second Up the Wall event.

Artists and perfomers took part in the three-day event, organised by Chester Performs, which also featured work at Chester Cathedral cloisters, along Werburgh Street and in Abbey Square.

Highlights included A World of Wool, with songs by Chester charity Save the Family and insect light sculptures by local artist Russell Kirk which illuminated the route.

Amber Knipe, Chester Performs project coordinator, said: “This was a tremendous event which really drew people’s imagination, despite the terrible weather on the first night.

“Visitors saw the city wall and cathedral walls, some of the city’s most famous features, in an entirely different light.”

Other artists included Toneflote, a mutant musical milkfloat, Jacqueline McCormick from Cheshire Dance, musical collective Frakture from Liverpool and Chester’s very own VJ Germ, Gemma Briers, who presented an interactive video installation in the Cathedral.
