Car fire closes lane of M56 in Cheshire

FIRE crews were called to a car fire on the M56 in the early hours of Monday morning, October 6.

At 5.29am, fire appliances from Warrington, two from Widnes and one from Stockton Heath were called to the M56 east between junction 11 and 12, near Preston Brook.

On arrival, firefighters found a private motor vehicle on the hard shoulder which had a fire in the engine. It had been alight but was extinguished before the crews arrived.

The Highways Agency closed one lane of the motorway for just over an hour, which caused some delays.
