WOULD-BE students will be able to get to grips with exotic animals, calculate their carbon footprint and enjoy live music performances as part of an open day at the University of Chester this weekend.
The open day, which takes place on Saturday, October 4, will give prospective students the opportunity to learn more about the vast array of courses on offer, and student life at the university’s Chester campus.
As well as student-led tours, academic taster sessions and other presentations, highlights of the day will include the chance to see exotic animals from Reaseheath College, an associate college of the university, work out your own carbon footprint in the Department of Geography and Development Studies, and view specialist fitness tests in the state-of-the-art fitness centre.
The day will also welcome visitors to the Kingsway Buildings, home of the Faculty of Arts and Media. Highlights there include live performances by popular music students.
Throughout the day, Chester radio station Dee 106.3 will be broadcasting from outside the Binks Building, while guided tours and open top bus tours of the city will also be available.
Adam Bodger, open day co-ordinator, said: “Open days always have a tremendous amount of energy and excitementŠabout them, and this year should be no exception.Š I would encourage anyone considering higher education study to attend, whether it be for one of our foundation degrees, undergraduate degrees or postgraduate degrees.”Š
Prospective students will be able to learn more about life on the Chester campus during the student-led tours, which feature student accommodation, sports and recreation facilities, Learning Information Services resources, and the fitness suite.
Visits to academic departments will give people a taste of various learning and teaching environments, through activities and demonstrations, sample lectures, and subject talks and guidance sessions.
Presentations relating to student support, careers and welfare will also feature, alongside sessions about accommodation, finance, and filling in a UCAS form. A university question time has also been introduced for the first time, in which senior members of staff will be on hand to answer questions.
Within the university’s seven faculties, a diverse range of programmes is available, from traditional disciplines including mathematics, English, history and modern languages, to vocational study such as education, nursing and midwifery.
Alongside single and combined honours degrees, there are opportunities for post-graduate and part-time study, and the university enjoys strong links with several organisations in the North West and beyond, including associate colleges, West Cheshire College, Warrington Collegiate and Reaseheath College.
There is no need to book your place at the open day, although further information is available by visiting www.chester.ac.uk and clicking on the open day link on the home page. Alternatively, contact 01244 512471 or email enquiries@chester.ac.uk
