HUXLEY parish councillors voted unanimously to ask Cheshire County Council’s highways authority to extend the 40mph speed limit throughout the village.
At their meeting, Caroline Jones of Hoofield Lane expressed her concern about the number of heavy goods vehicles eroding the hedgerows on the narrow lanes.
Councillors discussed the issue and decided that because Huxley was a farming community there would always be a need for large vehicles on these roads to service the farms in the area. They also decided it would be unrealistic to impose a 30mph speed limit on the roads.
After discussion it was decided to take a vote on three motions:
BLOB To extend the current 40mph speed limit to the northern edge of the parish boundary. This was carried unanimously.
BLOB That the present 40mph speed limit be reduced to 30mph throughout the parish. The majority did not support this motion.
BLOB There should be a permanent weight limit for HGVs with rights access only - again most councillors did not support the motion.
Cheshire County Council will now be contacted to ask that the present 40mph speed limit be extended to the northern edge of the parish boundary and moved about 100 yards further south from the school.
