THE countdown is under way for work to begin on a £130,000 heritage project to enhance the Bridge Gate entrance to the Old Dee Bridge and finish work in Castle Drive in Chester city centre.
The project begins on October 6 when Castle Drive will be closed for five weeks from County Hall to the junction of Lower Bridge Street.
From October 20, the Old Dee Bridge will be closed for three weeks as part of the scheme to enable a pedestrian crossing to be built at the entrance to the bridge in Lower Bridge Street. One week of the bridge closure coincides with half term holidays when the traffic will be lighter.
The £130,000 heritage public realm project is designed and supervised by Cheshire County Council, funded by Chester City Council through the Northwest Development Agency and will be carried out by the County Council’s highway maintenance contractor Edmund Nuttall.
It forms one of the final sections of the Chester City Council and Chester Renaissance Riverside Promenade projects.
On November 10 the contractor will be working in The Groves area and this should not affect passing traffic. The finishing work is expected to last two weeks.
