FURTHER consultations are taking place over plans to build a zebra crossing in the Newton area of Chester.
A new option has been put forward by county council engineers following a public meeting held earlier this summer.
It is now being proposed that the crossing should be sited 25 metres north of the junction of Plas Newton Lane and The Beeches.
“A zebra crossing is definitely needed for pupils arriving and leaving Upton-by-Chester High School and I am sure that it could also be used by local people at different times of the day,” said Cheshire’s highway and transportation executive member Eveleigh Moore-Dutton.
“We have listened carefully to residents views before putting forward this new option.
“I would urge residents to make their views known about the plans and they can do this by writing to Kevin Day, Cheshire County Council, Backford Hall, Chester, Cheshire CH1 6EA.”
Consultation takes place between October 6 and 26 and a report will then go before the Local Joint Highways Committee in November for decision.
If the plan gets the go-ahead the zebra crossing will be constructed this winter.
The plans can be viewed at Backford Hall, Chester and are available for inspection during normal office hours.
