Pupils’ dramatic finale

A SUMMER school with a difference has been hailed a storming success after the curtains closed on its second year.

Upton Heath Primary School became the home of a summer drama school during the August holidays where pupils from the school and Cutting Edge Drama Group came together to develop drama, music and filming skills.

The five-day school offered the talented youngsters the opportunity to devise their own short plays, create mini-films and also have singing coaching.

The objective was to combine drama, movement, filming, multimedia, music and singing into one, new piece of modern theatre in just five days.

Organiser and director of Cutting Edge Arts Ltd, Rick Smith, said the children’s hard work paid off with an “absolutely stunning” final performance.

He added: “The children worked so hard during the daily workshops to create a new and original piece of theatre based on the theme of The Power of the Human Brain.

“The final performance was very well received by the audience who were made up of parents and friends. “A highlight of the performance was a haunting rendition of the Eagles classic Hotel California and the standard of the singing and acting was very high.

“Full credit must be given to Joe Mann for his inspirational musical coaching and directing.”
