Chester man attacked security guard outside police station

A CHESTER man has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay compensation after assaulting a man outside Blacon police station.

Shaun Mosey, of Hillside Road, Blacon, appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 22 charged with assaulting a security guard who was on duty at the time.

Laurence Bestow, prosecuting, said: “He was walking past Blacon police station at 1.30am on December 23, 2007 when he approached a security guard who was talking on his mobile phone.

“He asked the guard if he worked for the police and the guard said that yes, he did.

“The guard thought he was quite menacing and told him to go home. He kept walking towards him, even when told the area was covered by CCTV.

“He punched the guard twice before officers intervened and took him into custody.”

Mosey, 23, who has previous convictions for resisting arrest dating back to 2005, was subject to a community order for assaulting a police officer in October 2007.

Ashley Barnes, defending, said that Mosey’s lifestyle in the 12-18 months leading up to the offence was “chaotic” and that he had a problem with alcohol.

He added: “He has been warned by doctors about his alcohol consumption. But there has been a noticeable change in his behaviour recently; he has been able to reduce the amount that he drinks and he realises he has got to stop.”

Mosey was given an 18-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, and told to pay compensation of £250 to the victim.
