Nappiness

SAVVY baby changing could help the environment and save you cash, says a mum offering advice to anyone interested in ditching disposable nappies.

Mum and cloth nappy adviser Katie Millard is organising a “nappacino” coffee morning to show parents different types of nappies and give free, impartial advice on how they could benefit from using them.

Money from refreshments at the event, on Tuesday, September 23 from 1.15-3pm at All Saints Church in Hoole, will go to CLIC Sargent’s Yummy Mummy Campaign supporting children with cancer.

Katie, of Hoole, said: “There used to be advice available in antenatal classes but that had to stop because of cuts.

“If mums-to-be want to get information on cloth nappies they have to seek it out for themselves, which most people don’t have time for.”

Katie uses cloth nappies for her son, Will, 21 months and says they reduce waste being sent to landfill sites and can save money as subsidies are available from Cheshire County Council.

She said: “A lot of people don’t realise how much money they can save.

“They aren’t like the old Terry towels with safety pins that our parents used – they look like disposable nappies.

“They have an inner nappy made of cotton or bamboo, which is really soft, and on top of that you put a waterproof layer.”
