Wakes tradition is still a big hit
MORE than 3,500 people gathered for the evergreen Tilston Wakes 2008 annual event.
Attractions at this year’s Bank Holiday bonanza included the First Slice of the Ox, bought at auction by Barry Rolph for £255, a falconry display, a fancy dress competition and a dog show.
Amy Williams was crowned as this year’s Miss Wakes and her attendant was Emily Locke. Gaynor Rowlands was named as Lord Mayor of Tilston.
