Mum’s the word in fun day

FOUR mums have joined forces to revitalise community spirit in Alpraham by organising the first Village Day.

Mums Debra Jones, Liz McElroy, Sarah-Jane Mears and Helen Worboys decided to launch the fun day to increase the number of friendship groups within the village.

Sarah-Jane said: “This year a group of us went to Liz’s for Christmas drinks. We all got talking and we realised that three of us who all have children at the same school didn’t know one another. It left a burning question: How many other young families are there in our village?”

The mums decided the best way to revitalise the sense of community in Alpraham was to have a Village Day.

She added: “Once the parish council became aware of our intentions, it backed us with full support and funding. The villagers are being supportive too, volunteering to run stands.

“Liz has lived in the area all her life and has seen the village community slowly dwindle due to the local amenities diminishing such as the school, the shop, the post office. We are trying to resurrect that and provide an event where we can regenerate the community spirit to get every one, old and young, involved.”

The day is on September 13, on the Alpraham playing fields at 1.30pm.

It will include a sports day for both children and adults, tyre rolling, face painting, a bouncy castle, a barbecue and more.
