All smiles at church fête

BEESTON Castle was bouncing with bank holiday celebrations as the St Boniface Church fête got into full swing.

Thanks to an age-old agreement with former owner Lord Tollemache, the Bunbury-based church held its annual event within the castle walls which attracted about 1,000 visitors.

Attractions included inflatable rides for children, a raffle with a £50 Marks & Spencer hamper as first prize, a book stall, a tea tent and a hog roast.

Visitors were also given the chance to win a meal for four at neighbouring Peckforton Castle.

Organising committee member Barbara Crowley said: “It was very successful and luckily the weather just about held.

“We used local companies for our food and prizes. It is always within our parish boundaries that we have such fantastic support.”

Funds raised from the fête will go toward the church’s plans to renew its heating system.
