MP lends her support to city’s credit union

CITY MP Christine Russell has given a leading Chester not-for-profit organisation a boost.

The MP has signed up to Chester Credit Union.

Founded in 2004, the organisation is run and controlled by members who either live or work in Chester district.

Its aim is to promote sensible saving and financial management and to combat the problem of loan sharks.

The credit union, which is regulated by the Financial Services Authority, is chaired by former city councillor Mr David Challen.

Its directors have experience in banking, accounting, legal, training and development, business consultancy, marketing and the charity sector.

The organisation, which has a large team of experienced volunteers, says it concentrates on offering members a first class service, customised to what they need. It encourages people to save and only to borrow what they can afford to pay back.

Because it is a not-for-profit body, it offers very competitive interest rates against high street lenders.

The MP says: “Chester Credit Union is a reputable organisation that offers a secure, safe and sensible way of saving and borrowing.”
