THIEVES targeting oil tanks are causing problems in villages in and around Chester.
Houses, farms and businesses in these isolated areas often rely on oil-fired heating and the rise in the cost of fuel has also meant a rise in thefts of oil and red diesel from exterior tanks.
PC Tony Owens of Cheshire Police said that, despite a drop in oil prices, fuel thefts are a continuing problem.
He advised: “Please be vigilant and secure your tanks as offenders often take a few gallons at a time from full tanks so the thefts can go unnoticed.
