Player hopes youngsters will court success

Player hopes youngsters will court success

WIMBLEDON may have passed without a UK success story but one Frodsham police officer is hoping to unearth the stars of tomorrow.

Keen tennis player PC Greg Thompson is running a 10-week coaching course for teenagers in Frodsham and Helsby started this week.

Greg, who has played tennis for about 20 years, said: “It should be a lot of fun. It’s a good community thing.

“A lot of teenagers haven’t got anything to do and nowhere to go when they are off school so I wanted to get a few of them down and give them some coaching.”

The sessions will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Helsby Community Sports Club, Chester Road, from 4-6pm and are aimed at teenagers aged from 13-17.

“I have played at a reasonable level and I found that tennis is a great sport for summer and for keeping fit.” added Greg.
