Families are united in music

FAMILIES have been in harmony with one another.

Mums, dads and children got together for a Family Music Day at St Mary’s Centre.

They made music with the help of professional musicians from leading chamber orchestra Manchester Camerata.

The event, aimed at children aged seven-11, was supported by the Bank of America Foundation as part of the Chester Festivals Education Programme.

The day included workshops where children made their own instruments, costume accessories and props for a performance. They also enjoyed a workshop where they experimented on noisy instruments with percussionist Janet Fulton.

The musicians and a story- teller collaborated with the children and their parents to create original soundtracks to the mythical tales of King Midas, Pan and Echo & Narcissus. The day culminated with a final performance of the stories.

The next Family Music Day will take place in November at The Queen’s School, Chester. For more details, log on to www. manchestercamerata.com or call 0161 226 8696.
