Jane’s up for red carpet treatment

A PARISH Councillor has been nominated for The Scottish Power/Trinity Mirror awards 2008.

Jane Hastings is seen as an unsung hero in her community because of her tireless work to make the village of Barrow a pleasant and friendly place to live for residents.

Cllr Hastings not only set up Barrow Youth Club attended by more 20 boys and girls but was instrumental in the village winning The Shell UK Cheshire Community Spirit Award 2007.

She helped to set up a steering committee that galvanised support for community activities which impressed judges of the competition.

Barrow Youth Club which she attends without fail every Wednesday has a football team, arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes and has even taken youngsters on trips to Camelot and Manley Adventure Trail.

She said: “We have got excellent community spirit here – when we entered the awards, we felt the village ticked all the boxes and we were really thrilled to have won.”

Barrow has more than 50 organisations including The Evergreens for over 70s, a baby group, a pony club called Clips Clops, The Friday Night Boys, Fish Supper Club, Model Railway Group and flower arranging.
