Heroic paramedic in car crash rescue is named

AN HEROIC paramedic who rescued a woman from her submerged car has been publicly thanked for his actions.

North West Ambulance Service have praised paramedic Stuart Ryland who plunged into the river to pull the woman above water.

The victim, thought to be in her 20s, sustained leg injuries in the crash and was trapped for about 40 minutes this morning, Friday, June 27.

Her grey Vauxhall Astra crashed through a bridge on Church Lane, Aldford and fell 15ft into the River Dee.

Ambulance service spokesperson Tracey Leung said: “Stuart’s actions played a vital role in saving her life.

“Despite sustaining an injury to himself and a soaked uniform during the rescue, he continued to give the patient treatment, on route to hospital. The patient suffered leg injuries, and was taken to the Countess of Chester hospital.”

Police were called to Church Lane at about 7.40am after reports that a grey Vauxhall Astra was upside down with the female driver trapped inside.

Cheshire police spokesman Dave Murray said: “The woman was released and taken to the Countess where she is being assessed.”

Cheshire Fire Service sent four pumps, a safety boat and a hydraulic platform to Aldford.
