Festival is fun – weather or not

Festival is fun – weather or not

YOU plan it for months and then it rains!

Rare summer storms with 60mph gusts were not exactly what the organisers of the Farndon Festival had in mind, but at least Farndon and District Brass Band struck up and marched purposefully along to the festival field off the high street.

It takes more than the weather to put villagers off their fun and the marquee was soon alive with activity as former High Sheriff of Cheshire and Farndon resident Michael Trevor-Barnston opened the event.

Carriage drivers proved themselves more than a match for the conditions with their demonstration, but rally and vintage cars wisely stayed off for fear of becoming bogged down.

The youngsters thoroughly enjoyed their children’s fancy dress competition judged by Mr Trevor-Barnston.

The dog show included classes for the waggiest tail and best sausage retriever.

The wind put paid to hot-air balloon rides although the balloon was inflated later in the afternoon.

The children had an early evening disco all to themselves followed by a great live band later on.

The crowds managed to enjoy a wonderful fireworks display to round-off the festival which was quickly followed by another deluge.
