Chester paramedic saves woman from submerged car

A FEARLESS paramedic saved the life of a submerged woman by pulling her from her overturned car this morning (Friday, June 27).

The woman, who suffered leg and chest injuries, was trapped in a grey Vauxhall Astra at Church Lane, Aldford, for about 40 minutes.

Ambulance service spokesperson Tracey Leung said: “One of the paramedics climbed into the water and pulled the female out of the car. He saved the woman's life.

“He then carried on treating her on the way to hospital despite being injured himself and soaking wet.

“The service was called to Church Lane, Aldford at 7.42am to an accident involving a car in the river. The Countess of Chester Hospital was put on stand by and fire services were in attendance. A female, of unknown age, was taken to hospital.”

Police were called to Church Lane at about 7.40am after reports that a grey Vauxhall Astra was upside down with the female driver trapped inside.

Cheshire police spokesman Dave Murray said: “The incident is still on going. We received a call at 7.40am reporting that a car had gone into the river and a woman was trapped inside. The woman was released and taken to the Countess where she is being assessed.”

Cheshire fire service sent four pumps, a safety boat and a hydraulic platform to Aldford.
