State of Tarporley road labelled ‘disgrace’
RODE Street in Tarporley has been called a “disgrace” by parish councillors demanding Cheshire County Council takes action.
The road, at the entrance to Tarporley off the A51, has been in a bad state for more than a year. Although small repairs have been done, no resurfacing has been completed.
Chairman of Tarporley Parish Council, Heidi Nickson, told a meeting of councillors Cheshire County Council’s highways department had taken Rode Street off a list of repairs to be made in the village.
She said: “I had a meeting with highways and they told me that, among other things, the resurfacing of Rode Street was not going to happen in the near future.”
Parish councillors agreed they had been waiting too long to have the road resurfaced.
Parish councillor Roy Craven said: “The road is in a real state, and really needs to be done.
“It was down to be done nearly two years ago but nothing has been completed and now it has been taken off the list.
“In some places, the difference in height between the white lines and the rest of the road is about two or three inches.
“It is very dangerous and a disgrace really. Very dangerous especially for those on motorbikes – it could cause a really bad accident.”
“It also creates a bad impression of the village. It is at the entrance to the village and it is appalling.”
Chris Lowe from County Council Highways said: “The resurfacing of Rode Street did not make it into our budget in March for the year.
“However, we do make submissions for the budget again later on this year and it is high on our reserve list. It does need repairing and Vale Royal is aware it is one of the worst roads. It still is a high priority. We will try and complete this work later this year if the funding is available.”
