Ladies display head for glory at the races

THE fashion stakes were high at Chester Racecourse’s Ladies’ Evening as women as well as horses competed for top prizes at the first June meeting.

More than 250 well-dressed women entered the popular Best Dressed competition with the winner walking away with a £4,000 holiday prize provided by Almond Resorts, Caribbean Collection and Virgin Airlines.

The Tuesday evening event attracted almost 10,000 race goers, down about 800 on last year.

Spokesman Rob March said: “We had record numbers of 65,000 throughout May and are pleased with the response on Tuesday night. We have added another date in June for the first time this year so expected numbers to fall ever so slightly.”

The next race meeting is a Midsummer event on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28.
