TV series looks at Chester’s Roman history

A NEW TV series about this region’s history hits the screens this Sunday with fresh revelations about the city’s military importance in Roman times.

Lost Treasures was scheduled to be shown two weeks ago but Lewis Hamilton’s Grand Prix success shifted all regional schedules.

The new series begins with West Cheshire College lecturer Mark Olly presenting a new revisionist treatment of the Roman conquest in northern Britain and searches for the truth as to whether military muscle won over hearts and minds.

He also looks at the level of Roman invincibility, whether it’s a myth and why Northern Britons refused to surrender.

The Roodee, home to Chester Races, is also analysed via Chester based Take 27 who show the importance of the Roodee in the Roman landscape.

Episode one of the eight week long series will be broadcast at 6pm on ITV this Sunday, June 15. For more information go to: www.lost-treasures.co.uk
