‘Brilliant Bishops’ celebrates good Ofsted report

BRILLIANT Bishops – this was the answer of one child at The Bishops’ Blue Coat Church of England High School in Great Boughton to the inspection team in their recent Ofsted inspection.

Staff and pupils of the school are celebrating the positive inspection report published this month following an Ofsted inspection in April.

It was a rigorous inspection, during which lessons were observed, staff and pupils were interviewed and parental views were canvassed. The final judgment is that the school is overwhelmingly good in every area, with outstanding personal development and well-being in the sixth form, where inspectors praised the students as excellent role models.

The inspectors were very positive about the high standards achieved in examinations, the high quality teaching they saw, the many different courses on offer, the way the pupils related to staff and to each other, and the care, guidance and support given to the young people in the school.

“We are delighted by this report,” said headteacher Justin Blakebrough. “It reflects the hard work and dedication of the staff and pupils at Bishops’ over the last few years. Our aim now is to improve still further and become an outstanding Church of England school serving Chester and the surrounding area.

“As a church school, we have had an additional denominational inspection – the initial feedback for that inspection indicates we will be classed as an outstanding school in terms of our Christian ethos and its impact on the school.”
