A celebration of excellence

FIVE years of secondary school life has been celebrated at Bishop Heber High School in Malpas.

The guest speaker at the Year 11 Celebrations Assembly was Nick Wrigley, governor at the school from 1982-2000 and chairman of governors from 1996-2000.

Mr Wrigley is still closely involved with Bishop Heber and carries out mock interviews with Year 11 and sixth-form students.

He presented progress files to each student which contain awards and certificates they have received since arrival at the school in Year 7.

Sports awards were presented to players who have played consistently well all season. 2007 winners were not eligible to be nominated as 2008 winners.

Certificates were presented to students who have worked on the school’s Afritwin Project including Kathryn Flack, Abbey Fitzgerald, Abi Pritchard, Molly Owen, Kate Thelwell, Ros Hornby, Bethan Thomas-Rees and Stephanie Wilson.

The group has worked together to help raise money for two schools in South Africa. They have raised £1,800 and plan to visit South Africa in February Half Term 2009 to visit the schools.

Head of Year 11 Jakki Moxon congratulated students on their achievements and wished them luck in their forthcoming GCSE examinations. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by students as a thank you for the support she has given them over the years.

Students also enjoyed a Prom Celebration at McDonald Hill Valley Hotel.

Three quarters of the Year 11 students will stay on to study at the school in the sixth form.
