Train delays in Cheshire caused by bridge crash claim

TRAIN services were delayed after a lorry was reported to have crashed into a railway bridge.

Network Rail received a call on Wednesday, June 4 to say the heavy goods vehicle had ploughed into the bridge in Beeston on the Chester to Crewe route.

They promptly ordered trains not to pass over the bridge as a precaution and at 9.20am on Wednesday announced over the public address system in Chester why trains had been delayed.

But when police checked all possible bridges in Beeston, they discovered there was no truth to the report.

Police spokesperson Jacqui Hanson said: “Police officers checked it out and couldn’t find any damage.”

Morning commuters were left standing on platform one at Chester train station and in Crewe for the twice hourly service until normal service resumed.
