Pensioner found hanging from block of Chester flats

THE body of a 66-year-old man was discovered hanging from the eighth floor balcony of a block of flats.

At 7.24am on Saturday, May 31, police were called to a report of a man, named locally as John Ross, hanging from the balcony in Thackeray Towers, Francis Street, Newtown.

Firefighters were called at 7.46am to assist in removing the body from the balcony.

Crew manager Andy Spencer at Chester Fire Station said: “Crews assisted police in extricating a male who was hanging by a noose from the eighth floor.

“They attended with a fire and a hydraulic platform and extricated the individual.”

Police spokesman Dave Murray said the man was local to Thackeray Towers and there were no suspicious circumstances.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
