Emergency services in River Dee rescue

A “DISTRAUGHT” man threw himself into the Dee this morning (Friday May 30).

At 8.03am, police received a call reporting a man who appeared distraught and the caller expressed concern he would throw himself in the river.

Chester fire station deployed its boat to rescue the man from the waters but he had returned to solid ground before they arrived.

Police spokesperson Rachel Hayes said the man had been spotted on Grosvenor Rowing Club’s landing stage next to the Boat House pub on Dee Lane.

He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.
