AN ACTIVE scout group took on two sporting adventures on the same day.
Cubs and beavers from 1st Helsby Scout Group took on a walking challenge, while their Scout colleagues took part in the district triathlon.
Beaver leader Judith Potts said: “Each year, on the second Saturday of May, Scouts have the opportunity to take part in a worldwide event – Jamboree On The Trail – which encourages scouts to go out walking together.
“As 2008 marks the centenary of 1st Helsby group, they set themselves the challenge of covering the 34 miles of the Sandstone Trail.”
Overall, 42 youngsters and 21 adults took part. Four Explorer Scouts began the trail and then it was continued by the Scout section.
Liam Brown singlehandedly walked the 12-mile stretch from Bickerton to Willington to represent his section, as other Scouts were involved in a triathlon competition.
The Cubs walked from Willington to Manley. Then the Beavers, the youngest section, aged six and seven, walked from Manley to Frodsham.
Meanwhile, Scouts Ellie Hayes, David Hayes, Beth Santry, Simon Schofield, Sam Marshall and Jack Haimes, attended the Northwest Cheshire District Triathlon.
Overall, they finished in second place, just 12 minutes behind the winning team, 3rd Frodsham Scouts.
