Firms sought to set up shop

A CAMPAIGNER has written to several low-budget food stores in an attempt to bring a new supermarket to Little Sutton.

Valerie Waring, pictured, who has lived in the area for nearly 50 years, contacted a number of retail chains, including Lidl, Aldi, Cool Trader and Costcutter.

She says both Lidl and Aldi have told her they would come to assess the old Kwik Save site in Chester Road.

In March, the community united in a campaign to bring a new store to the village with more than 1,000 people signing a petition.

About 40 residents took part in a protest outside the old Kwik Save and 2,000 flyers were posted urging people to write to councillors and borough MP Andrew Miller.

Mrs Waring said: “Lidl said they would go out to have a look at the site. Aldi also said they would send someone out to have a look.

“I don’t want to get people’s hopes up. We can’t force anyone to come to Little Sutton but at least they have got in touch.”

Meanwhile, JD Wetherspoon has ruled out opening up a premises at the old Kwik Save store – a rumour that the popular pub chain was going to take over the site had been circulating for a while.

But a spokesman for the company said it has no interest in the site as it already has two successful establishments in Ellesmere Port.
