THE LATEST weapon in the fight against dangerous parking was unveiled this week – school children.
A pupil patrol team ticked off six mums and dads who parked on double yellow lines, on kerbs and even in the middle of the road at Horn’s Mill Primary School, Helsby. The Year 3 class also designed their own parking tickets.
After Tuesday’s success, police now plan to roll out the scheme in schools across Frodsham and Helsby.
Lucy Griffiths, eight, said: “Children are often busy playing and don’t watch what the cars are doing but I think we are changing people’s minds.”
Ben Brown, also eight, added: “Now they know someone is watching and looking.”
Helsby PCSO Chris Maddocks said: “We don’t want to aggrieve people, we want to educate them and make them stop.
“I think the parents were a little embarrassed but they listened intently.”
Headteacher Anne Doughton said: “We need to listen to the children’s opinions and fears about their safety to and from school, and we will continue to work with Cheshire Police to find solutions to help with the congestion outside our school.”
