TWO Chester bands are taking part in a Liverpool music festival next week.
The LP and Circlesound have been selected from more than 500 unsigned bands from all over the world to play in the first annual Sound City event at Revolution, St Peter’s Square.
The festival and conference takes place from May 27-30 with some of the hottest acts and hopefuls lined up to grace a city which is recognised for producing music legends.
Five-piece outfit The LP, managed by City Bar owner Martin Ellis, are playing on Wednesday.
They describe themselves as a “rockier version of The Killers” and are influenced by bands like The Stranglers and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
But the band will be temporarily reduced to a solo performance by singer and guitarist Matt Adams due to the other band members’ commitments, with two working on a demo CD and one taking A-levels.
Matt, 21, of City Road, Chester, said: “It’s a really exciting time for us right now. We have just signed to Vinyl Junkie in Japan, the same label as The Wombats and The Courteneers, and our debut album, We Are, But Now, is released over there in July.
“To be selected for Sound City on top of that is amazing and it is a fantastic festival to be involved with.”
Circlesound are playing Revolution on Tuesday.
The four-piece, from Blacon and Lache, have been compared to the likes of Coldplay and the Foo Fighters.
Frontman David Lloyd said: “I couldn’t really say what we sound like, I prefer to let people make their own minds up. We are influenced by loads of bands including Radiohead, The Who and The Pixies.”
Sound City will take in 30 locations and will be a highlight of Liverpool’s 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations.
It is set to play host to a number of established acts, such as Reverend and the Makers, The Wombats, DJ Yoda, and Hercules and the Love Affair.
Another unique aspect of Sound City is that it will be the first festival in the world to broadcast live via Second Life on the internet.
