Act’s festival gig

THE cream of Chester’s indie rock scene will be representing the area at the first rock and indie festival in Crewe this bank holiday weekend.

Alium will be joining dozens of bands from Manchester, Birmingham and across Cheshire in the Crewe Live 08 line-up over four days.

The Chester four-piece plays a fusion of punk and metal, with influences including NoFX, Trivium, Rise Against and Iron Maiden.

The band formed 18 months ago and has been playing pubs and battle of the bands gigs in Chester and Northwich.

The line-up comprises James on lead guitar and vocals, Mark on guitar, Sears on bass and Jonny on drums.

James said: “We play mainly our own stuff but do occasionally play some covers.

“We try to be exciting when we play gigs rather than just standing there so if you enjoy bands that jump about a lot come along to one of our gigs. Bring a friend as well!”

The band has been described as a “blend of in-your-face guitar riffs, some remarkable drumming skills and gritty vocals”.

Crewe Live 08 will feature about 60 bands across seven venues and most of the gigs are free to watch.

The venues include The M Club, The Box, Square One, The Imperial, The Bank, The Express and The Waldron, and it is hoped the event will attract thousands of music fans and visitors from across the North West.

Alium play at the Express at about 3pm on Monday.
