FOOTBALL legends will be hoping for a below par performance for a good cause.
Sky Sports commentator Rob Palmer is helping to organise the cerebral palsy charity Stick ‘n’ Step’s charity golf day at Pryors Hayes Golf Club, Oscroft, Tarvin on June 8.
Ex-Liverpool and Chester star Ian Rush and Reds greats Phil Neal and Gary Gillespie will play alongside former Everton players Graeme Sharp and Derek Mountfield.
Wales and Manchester United defender Clayton Blackmore and United goalkeeper Alex Stepney will also be stepping up to the tee.
Sky pundit Alan McInally and former Derby County manager Billy Davies will join the throng of famous names, with others to be confirmed.
Rob, whose 13-year-old son Ellis has attended Stick ‘n’ Step for five years, said: “We raised £38,000 last year and aim to get near it again for a great charity that supports local kids, many of whom are from Chester and Cheshire, who have cerebral palsy.”
There will be prizes for a beat a pro challenge, the longest drive, the nearest drive to the pin for every par-three and best team prizes.
With face painting and bouncy castles, and stars having photos taken with fans, Rob says it is not just for golfers.
He adds: “It’s a serious competition but we’ll have as much fun as possible too.”
The footballers have contributed signed shirts for auction during the evening’s entertainment, compèred by Radio Merseyside comedian Willie Miller.
Liverpool heroes Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher and Everton stars Aiyegbeni Yakubu, Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta have autographed club jerseys.
Manchester United favourites Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney, and England’s Michael Owen have also signed shirts.
A golfing holiday in Spain for four players and a flag signed by Arnold Palmer will go to the highest bidder.
For a £35 entrance fee, golfers get 18 holes of golf, buffet lunch, on-course refreshment and the chance to win prizes.
