VILLAGERS are preparing themselves for their biggest day of the year on June 21.
Residents and parishioners of St Boniface come together for Bunbury Village Day with a host of events and activities to entertain people who come from far and wide.
Bunbury Village Day, which attracts thousands of Cheshire visitors, hails from the old Wakes event celebrated in the village.
Festivities will start with a parade to the Jubilee playing fields at 2.30pm from St Boniface Church.
There is a packed itinerary of events and activities taking place with highlights of the festivities including:
Rose Queen ceremony,
Fancy Dress competition,
Red Barrows Wheelbarrow display team,
Equestrian display team,
The Kinnerton Morris men,
Tug-of-war competition,
Pantomime horse racing.
Other events taking place include a beer tent and refreshments, historic vehicles, a bucking bronco, a children’s fun fair, a miniature railway, live music, a barbecue, a football competition, traditional craft demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, lacemaking, wood turning, basket weaving and pottery.
The theme for the 2008 event is ‘Down on the Farm’ and organisers are hoping for strong turnout utilising the rural theme in the fancy dress parade.
The village day, famed for its community spirit, also has a series of friendly competitions: best scarecrows, best decorated cakes, battle of the blooms, children’s miniature garden, tug of war, pantomime horse racing and tent competition.
