Pauline Campbell found dead in Malpas cemetery

THE woman’s body found in Malpas cemetery this morning (Thursday, May 15) was that of Pauline Campbell.

Mrs Campbell’s body was discovered in the graveyard where her daughter Sarah is buried.

Mrs Campbell had been campaigning relentlessly for better conditions for women in prison after her daughter Sarah committed suicide in Styal Prison in January 2003.

Police were called to the cemetery on Chester Road at 6.50am after a member of the public found the body.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Duty Inspector Andy Burrage said: “A member of the public alerted the police to a body in the cemetery. We cannot release any details at present, as we are still in the early stages of our inquiries.”

Police have cordoned off the cemetery and a white tent has been erected at the site.

Forensic teams are at the scene.
