Speeding motorists caught on rural roads

DRIVERS were caught speeding up to 13mph over the speed limit.

Chester Western Rural Police launched an anti-speeding campaign in Helsby, Frodsham and Norley on Saturday in a bid to slow down traffic.

In Fluin Lane, Frodsham – where a pedestrian was killed earlier this year – five people were caught driving at up to 38mph in the 30mph zone.

In Chester Road, Helsby, near Tesco, eight people were caught driving at up to 39mph.

And in Norley Road, Norley, close to Delamere Forest, 13 people were caught doing speeds of up to 43 mph in the 30mph zone.

Insp Phil Hodgson of Frodsham Police said: “We noticed that these drivers tended to be older people, one of them aged 70. There was a mix of local people and visitors to the area.

“It just shows that people of all ages can speed, and take no account of the fact they are coming into a built up area were there may be traffic lights, pedestrians and children.

“We chose these spots for a reason. In Fluin Lane there has been a fatality, residents have asked us to carry out action on Norley Road and Chester Road is a main road going into a built up area where we feel it is important to carry out speed enforcement.”
