Lady luck smiles on sun-soaked Roodee

Lady luck smiles on sun-soaked Roodee

EVERYONE was a winner this week at Chester Races as crowds flocked to the Roodee to enjoy the annual May Festival in glorious sunshine.

Official figures released for the opening day, when the highlight was the Chester Cup race, revealed 18,000 had visited the course, a slight increase on last year’s numbers.

But more than 21,000 were expected to turn out for Ladies’ Day yesterday – one of the biggest events in the city’s social calendar.

Regular visitor to Chester Racecourse, Newcastle and England striker Michael Owen, has so far been in attendance on both days.

On Wednesday, he was pictured with his father Terry and Newcastle teammates including Shay Given and Nicky Butt.

Chester Police reported that most racegoers were well behaved and they had made 10 arrests following Wednesday’s racing.
