Labs used to play politics

ACCORDING to recent reports in the local press, Lib Dems vow to help save facilities at Daresbury Laboratory.

This is very interesting. Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus is supported by the Science and Technology Facilities Centre, the North West development Agency, the universities of Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster and Halton Borough Council.

Warrington Borough Council, a Lib Dem/Tory controlled council, does not support the campus in any way.

A Lib Dem member of parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon on the Innovation, Universities and Skills select committee has recently highlighted calls for Daresbury to be closed.

A North West Lib Dem MP for Southport has described the Fourth Generation Light Source as a consolation prize for Daresbury. We can do without this type of support from the Lib Dems, who are merely trying to play politics with the future of our science and innovation campus.

This week we have seen another £25m of investment committed to Daresbury for another innovation block that will attract another 1,200 jobs.

This is the type of support we want.

Lib Dems should not interfere as they have no say whatsoever and should try to sort out their own problems.
