Group takes action to change its image

CHESHIRE’S community council has relaunched itself with a new name and image.

The organisation, which will now be called Cheshire Community Action, focuses on building stronger communities in both urban and rural areas.

John Heselwood, deputy chief executive officer, said: “The organisation has been working within the community for 80 years and we decided it was time for a change.

“Many people were getting us confused with local government, so we decided to change our name.

“Our members had the choice of a variety of names but decided to choose this one because it clearly defines what we do.”

Cheshire Community Action’s aim is to encourage self help in communities.

Mr Heselwood said: “We are involved in setting up and organising community groups, we can help signpost them in the right direction. We are also involved in community planning, particularly helping parish councils produce a parish plan.

“We also have a number of grants to be used in the community and offer guidance to help groups access other grants.”

“One of our most important and most recognised services is our car scheme.”
