Cadet shows he’s simply the best

BEST of the best! That was how Colonel William Bromley- Davenport, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, described members of the Cheshire Cadet Forces at a special presentation.

Among those receiving awards at the event at Fox Barracks was Chester 16-year-old Air Training Corps Cadet Flight Sergeant Kevin Netherton from Hoole who picked up the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Merit.

He serves with 610 (City of Chester) Squadron ATC, based at Gilwern, Abbots Park.

The citation for the award – read by Colonel Gerry Wells-Cole, chief executive of the North West of England Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, described Kevin as ‘an excellent example of an Air Training Corps Cadet’.

Kevin holds the Silver and Bronze Awards of the Duke Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme, has qualified for gliding wings and is a squadron marksman. As sports officer and instructor for the squadron, his favourite sport is kayaking.

At Chester Catholic High School he is deputy head boy and is deputy stage manager for the school’s drama productions.
