Fire crews tackle blaze at disused Chester school

FIREFIGHTERS had to dodge used needles and broken glass when they attended a fire at a disused classroom.

The wooden building, which was being used by rough sleepers, was part of the former Abbeygate School in Victoria Road.

A small fire was reported at 2.30pm on Friday, May 2.

Crew Manager Steve Davit said: “There was not a lot of damage but you have to be wary when attending somewhere like that in case one of the firefighters is injured.

“Two firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose reel.”
