Tories heading for huge overall majority in Cheshire West

THE Conservative Party is heading for a massibve overall majorty on the new Cheshire West & Chester authority.
As the number of results passed the half way stage, 38 Tory councillors had been elected to the shadow council, compared with 10 Labour and three Liberal Democrats.
One worrying aspect for the Liberal Democrats emerged in the Northwich East and Shackerley ward where the British National Party candidate Jon Westerby polled more votes (529) than either of the Liberal Democrat candidates with Wendy Jones polling 388 and Brian Plant 323.
