Putting brakes on bike menace

POLICE are celebrating a massive haul after cracking down on the motorbike menace.

A dozen quad bikes, minimotos and off-road scrambler motorbikes were confiscated by police over a three week period last month.

Sergeant Anton Sullivan, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “Most of the vehicles have been seized in Blacon and Lache.

“Anything without insurance, if it’s not on the DVLA register, will be disposed of. The rest will be destroyed, sold as scrap or sold off for auction.

“We caught a 16-year-old pushing a quad bike up a road in Blacon.

“Technically he was riding it and it didn’t have insurance so it was taken off him.

“His dad was complaining but if you own a piece of kit like that, you should use it responsibly and take it to an organised place.”

Vehicles can be seized if they are ridden without insurance or without a licence or if they are driven in an anti-social manner, regardless of whether they are taxed or insured.

Anyone who sees bikes being used in an anti-social manner can contact Chester Outer NPU voicemail on 0845 458 6375.
