Pupils’ designs on safe parking

ANYONE parking illegally outside a Helsby primary school will have to answer to their children as well as the police.

Children at Horn’s Mill Primary School, Helsby, have designed parking tickets showing the dangers of parking on double yellow and zig-zag lines in the hope it will stop parents from parking illegally near the Denbigh Close school.

The initiative is a joint effort from Helsby PCSO Chris Maddocks and the school.

Chris said: “It’s far more effective for a child to explain how they are putting them in danger then for me to slap a ticket on their car.

“We want the children to convince the parents. The children designed about 21 posters to dissuade parents from parking illegally.

“The winning poster is going to be printed off about 200 times and then we can have the children going around putting them on cars accompanied by an officer. We will go out once a week so we can speak to the parents.”

Brothers Sam and Luke Thomas won the competition and their poster will be put on cars parked illegally in the area.
