Model pupils at play go on display

SELF-MADE models of children at play are on display in Chester’s city centre.

Youngsters from Boughton St Paul’s Nursery and Infant School have worked with potter Neil Glendinning to produce individual figures of themselves in clay which are exhibited at the Forum Shopping Centre until tomorrow (Saturday).

The children undertook the task after teacher Margaret Gregg was inspired by a visit to the First Emperor exhibition of China’s terracotta army at the British Museum, London.

Margot Marks, acting headteacher of the school which is to close in July, said: “The project has been a wonderful opportunity for the school to come together and produce a unique exhibition. Sincere thanks to Neil.”

The exhibition at the Forum Centre also includes photographs from the school’s 150-year history.

Mrs Marks added: “We particularly wanted the people of Chester to share our celebration of the life of the school. Support and good wishes have been expressed to the school throughout the campaign to keep the school open. The exhibition at the Forum is our way of saying thank you.”

The Children at Play and history exhibitions will move to the school on Sunday May 4.

Other events at Boughton St Paul’s School include a Spring Fair on Saturday, May 17, 11am-1pm, a celebration at St Paul’s Church on Wednesday, July 16 at 6pm and a Celebration Day (tickets available) on Saturday, July 12.
