Former Chester council leader fails to win seat

THE man who was leader of Chester City Council at the start of last year has failed to get a seat on the new Cheshire West & Chester authority.

Cllr Paul Roberts, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Chester City Council, was beaten in Broxton ward by Tory candidates Neil Ritchie who polled 2,770 votes, Michael Jones (2,640) and Ann Wright (2,637).

Cllr Roberts polled 1,018.

He said: “We always knew it was going to be a very difficult fight so the outcome was never really in doubt. Obviously it is disappointing because the Conservatives were elected for the area.

“But we will be back.”
