Comedy laced with the macabre

IT WAS made famous by the Cary Grant film, had almost 1,500 performances on Broadway and now it’s coming to a village hall.

Guilden Sutton Players are putting the finishing touches to their next production, Arsenic and Old Lace, by Joseph Kesselring.

Set in Brooklyn in the 1940s, the classic black comedy put the genre back on the theatrical map.

The Players hope some of the farcical situations will have the audience rolling in the aisles, but director Gail Young is also keen to bring out the macabre and emphasise the blackness of the comedy.

As usual sound effects and lighting will play a big part in building the atmosphere of the production.

If you enjoy live theatre and look forward to a good whodunit, with a laugh or two along the way, book a date at Guilden Sutton Village Hall as it is transformed into a versatile and dynamic acting space.

The play runs from Wednesday, May 14, to Saturday, May 17, at 7.45pm. Tickets, priced £7 and £6, are selling fast and can be bought at Guilden Sutton Post Office or by calling Anna Morris on 01244 300034.
