Village shows its pride

Village shows its pride

BARROW village leaders welcomed judges from the Calor Village of the Year Award competition.

The village had made it through to the North of England regional finals of the competition and were keen to show the judges what they had to offer.

The villagers were only given two hours to take the judges around Barrow and show them why they should win.

Parish councillor Jane Hastings said: “We started with some presentations in the Millennium Room. Three residents told the judges about their experiences of village life in Barrow.

“It was great to hear how people had become involved in community life, and about all the activities they had got involved in.”

The judges were then taken to the village hall where around 40 residents had gathered to set up displays and show the judges the different aspects of community life in Barrow.

Cllr Hastings said: “It was wonderful to see such a packed hall. All the displays were bright and eye catching and the judges walked around the hall and talked to the residents about the displays.”

The judges were also taken on a tour in a mini-bus around the village.

Cllr Hastings added: “It was a very successful couple of hours, and I would just like to thank everybody who was involved, and gave their all to the competition. We now just have to wait and see how we do.”
